League Director’s Note
Welcome To Johnnycake Joust at Pickall!
It is hard to believe the 2024 season is already nearing the finish line. The accomplishments of you hundreds of student-athletes who have pushed yourselves this season both on and off the bike are incredible. You should take some moments and reflect on everything you have done and endured over the past months. There have probably been practices you didn't want to attend, hills you did not want to go up, homework you did not want to do - but you got it all done and you are here!
To the parents and coaches we say thank you for everything YOU have invested in the league community and in your teams. We get feedback complimenting our culture and vibe from folks. The truth is the culture and vibe of MICL come from the people of MICL and that is you.
Sincerely,
Jon Posner and Fred Powell

Pro Tip
What is ‘Earned Lap Cutoff?’
In a 2-lap race, if a rider finishes lap 1 before their cutoff time, they will be allowed to continue on the course for another lap.
If they finish lap 1 after the cutoff time, they will be done their the race and they will still earn a finish time and score. For a 3-lap race, they must complete 2 laps before their cutoff time to earn the third lap, etc.
Our finish line volunteers This is to prevent riders from racing for a longer time period than appropriate.
See this chart for the target race times.
Course Information
Description
Pickall area - a course created for us, by us. This course starts with a half lap prologue on a wide open powerline section where the riders stage and start. Once the groups string out a bit, they cross the park road and enter single track for a fast twisty trail that takes them out to overlook I-70 briefly before turning south onto the original Pickall loop. Riders will navigate this legacy trail that circumnavigates the pavilions in the area - it is wide and fast. Legend has it there is a DJ running a dance party on the course out there somewhere….
Riders then pass through the infield and over the finish line, having completed their first half-lap. They head out now to the East Loop, the newest sections of School’s Out Trail, built specifically to support our event. This is more classic East Coast single track with tighter sections and more rocks. When riders pop out onto the power line again, they are technically at the halfway point of their full lap, so they’ll continue down the power line and repeat the prologue.

Amenities
Camping/Lodging
There is primitive field camping available at the venue including use of two large pavilions - it is pretty close from the venue to the camping area - camping space is limited so jump on it!
Register for Pickall camping here - $5 per person camping
Food Trucks
We’ll see a longtime friend, Golden Grillz tending to bellies at the finals….looking to book a second truck, know anyone?
Restrooms
There will be portable restrooms on site. There are also park buildings with bathrooms that will be open. It is important that MICL participants keep the park restrooms clean and free of trash. This is a pack in/pack out event like all MICL events. Please help us keep in good standing with the park.
PETS
Unfortunately this area of the park is pet-free. It crushes us, but please leave pets at home this weekend. There will be park staff there, and they will ask you to take your dog home.
