League Director’s Note
Final Tournament at Fair Hill
This event will really mean something extra special to us because it was the place where MICL launched with our very first event weekend in 2018, and it will also be our last race as MD league directors now seven seasons later. We have been back to Fair Hill every year and our courses have gotten better and better. This years course is a repeat of 2023, with distinct middle and high school laps, and we’ll add a DJ since it is the state finals and all.
As usual, we are blown away by the hard work done by everyone this season, from student-athletes to coaches to all of the team moms and dads - thank you for all that you pour into every season.
We look forward to seeing you at Fair Hill for the final tournament!
Sincerely,
Jon Posner and Fred Powell
Maryland League Directors
Pro Tip
What is ‘Earned Lap Cutoff?’
In a 2-lap race, if a rider finishes lap 1 before their cutoff time, they will be allowed to continue on the course for another lap.
If they finish lap 1 after the cutoff time, they will be done their the race and they will still earn a finish time and score. For a 3-lap race, they must complete 2 laps before their cutoff time to earn the third lap, etc.
Our finish line volunteers This is to prevent riders from racing for a longer time period than appropriate.
See this chart for the target race times.
Course Information
Description
Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area (or just “Fair Hill” for short) lies just south of the Mason-Dixon line in Elkton, MD. Once owned by the duPont family, this nearly 6000 acre parcel is home to world-class equestrian facilities and rich with history. Old growth forests and scenic pastures dotted with the ruins of historic buildings will make for a beautiful course and venue.
This year the camping area is nearby some of the historic ruins, and skirts just past others. The ruins themselves are strictly off-limits, so please stick to the trails.
